This is Preetha, she’s a nine year old girl who lives in India. Remember when you were nine? Do you remember what you were doing when you were nine? My guess is you were probably enjoying life. What does a nine year old have to worry about?
Here’s what Preetha is doing at nine. Her chores consist of buying and selling in the market, helping in the kitchen and cleaning. Sound like you when you were nine? Probably not. Her lifestyle puts her in danger of believing a lie that Satan tells those stricken with poverty, “You don’t matter.”
The girls who went to youth camp felt that Preetha deserved what we’ve all gotten. She deserves to be fed, clothed, educated, healthy, taught about Christ and be told that she does matter. The cost for that to happen is $40 a month. We’ll be taking up an offering the last Sunday of each month to raise Preetha’s $40.
If you can’t donate money, then donate your time in prayer. Write her a note or send her a card. If you’re going to write her, make sure you give the card or letter to Chris. Compassion asks that the children have one person that they feel like they are writing to. So I’ll have to put your letter into a letter that I write. Cards should be OK.
I’ll put up Preetha’s information card and some of the things you might need to know about her after the jump.
